KLM the Royal Dutch Airline an airline renown for bad service

My daughter (and I) have to complain without ever having had the "good  fortune" to fly on KLM.

She had a flight booked to fly to Canada from Brussels on September  28, 2010 with KLM. She has travelled a lot within Europe and is familiar with  the Brussels Airport. In spite of having every intention of arriving  at the Airport an hour before her flight (the website says 30 minutes,  which is surprising, but that is what it says), her bus was late and  she got to the check-in counter 39 minutes before the KLM flight was to  depart. There was no one there so she started looking around for  someone. A few minutes later, she caught an agent who told her that  she had to be at the check-in counter 40 minutes beforehand (this is  for a flight from Brussels to Amsterdam). They more or less said:  "Too bad. Go home." Of course, our emails elicited no helpful response, not even  addressing the 30 minute-40 minute discrepency.

She had to come to  Canada for some legal matters we needed to deal with, so we purchased  a one-way on Air Transat. I asked KLM if they would honour the  return portion of the flight (total fare paid $1000), but they  won't.... of course. I have been flying for 40 years. I've been on some excellent  airlines, and some so-so airlines. I have never heard of such  terrible customer service as what my daughter got at the Brussels  Airport from KLM staff and the followup reply to our complaint. KLM sucks..... BIGTIME!!!! Patty (Canada)
